Hi ho!
Lets start off today with some updated news for you all. I have now got my results for university - I passed!! Got the result I was expecting, so I'm happy with the past 4 years of work. Dad even gave me £100 for the success, of which I was thrilled and reluctant to recieve, but I figured it would help to pay accomadation for New Designers. On that note, I'll be leaving for the event this monday (6th July) and be back by the next monday. So I best start packing tomoz.
So that means atm, I'm free and bored until then (apart from work and the likes).
Today, I'll explain the basics of Anime/Manga. Manga (in terms of contemporary meaning) is a style of drawings/art originating from Japanese comic (however, there are growing adaptations of this in other countries, like World Manga etc.). These comics cover the whole spectrum of genres: Sci-fi, fantasy, horror etc. - of which they also have their own genres made, i.e. Harem (1 guy has many love interests falling for him).
Most people would recognise the style from Anime kid shows like Pokemon, Bayblade, Yu-Gi-Oh and the likes, however it's not just for the child audience. There are many shows/comics for a range of ages/for teens and up/adult etc. so it's not for the select group.
The difference between Manga and Anime is simple - Anime = Animation/show. So Manga = comics/drawings.
Mangas differ to western comics because they are usually read "backwards" from right-left. Either way, it isnt that differcult to follow with this change, although some people do think it's strange (I overhear people saying "they're wierd Japanese comics that are backwards" and such quite often in book stores). I find they are much cleaner than other styles of comics because they dont always cover the pages in graphics and sketchlines.
It has now come to the stage where the manga style has broken beyond VHS/Disks/Comics that the streets of Japan (in one particular area) are covered in anime advertisements, t-shirts, costumes, games, bags, collectables and figures etc. Even in the UK (where progress has been slow and unstable) you can see the manga influence creeping up. I bought 2 shirts recently from "The Office Club," a shop I though would never sell that kind of design! Last year, there was an exhibition at the Urbis centre in Manchester, which described manga and anime, even talking about the british artists (or manga-ka) from Sweatdrop studios that work in the style. Of course, I attended... :D
I hope that's given you all a little more insight to the world of manga.
Next time - What happened in London, with New Designers. Cya soon!

Dis/likes and hobbies.
Hi people. It's been a major lag getting another post up, but here it is.
As promised, I've dedicated this post to getting to know my likes and dislikes, plus my hobbies.
So let’s start with hobbies. My main hobby is also a kind of lifestyle and it is a culture that originates from Japan. I have been called the name "otaku" by some of my friends, and I feel proud when someone does call me that. In literal terms, the word "otaku" describes hardcore fans of the art style of Anime/Manga. So much so, their bedrooms are cluttered and piled with countless comics and VHS/DVDs, as well as figurines, posters, costumes, collectables and other miscellaneous gear. I do have a good collection of DVDs, manga/comics, t-shirts and figurines, but I can still see the floor in my room...
However, I truly love Anime and Manga, and as part of another hobby linking to this, I also like to draw, usually in this style. I'll probably talk more about Manga etc. at another time (or else this post will become an essay...)
Another thing I do is spend my time on either the PC or console, usually the X-box 360. On the PC, I surf the web, look at my usual forums/e-mails and play games. I like my fighters (usually 2D), action/adventure and FPS on consoles, but my PC games are more like World of Warcraft and other MMORPGs.
Finally, I do a little bit of Taekwondo, as I like martial arts and it's something to help me keep active. Currently, I'm a yellow belt, so I'm still quite new to this compared to a lot of the class. (And unfortunately lately, I've had to miss 2 months due to work/uni taking priority, so my fellow belt comrades have surpasses me into green belts...)
That's my hobbies rapped up, so it's time to look at my favourite things:
Snack - Chocolate (Commonly = Yorkies, special treat = Guylian shells).
Meal - Curries, usually Tikka Masalas and Jalfrezis (but anything spicy is good, like Fajitas).
Drinks - Non-alcohol = Irn Bru, Alcohol = Malibu/coke or Bulmer's Cider.
Colours - Blue-violet and black.
Animals - Reptiles.
And my least favourite things are:
Snack - Chilli flavoured gum (like fruit gums, but disgusting!)
Meal - Anything with peas, mayonnaise or cucumber.
Drinks - Non-alcohol = fruit juices with lots of little bits in it! (However, I can drink Orange or Pineapple juice fine on its own). Alcohol = most beers (just seem tasteless or musky).
Colour - Pink, especially Electric/Shocking Pink. (Truly is an evil colour... DX)
Animals - Wasps... Nasty little-
If there's anything else you'd like to know about me, gimme a post!
Just a bit of news for you. Tonight's the Private viewing for my ceramic class' exhibition, so I'm wishing luck to my classmates and hope it's going to be a good night. Public viewing at the Victoria building (near Victoria Street) in UCLAN, Preston will be from 13th-20th June, so feel free to look around.
Well, that raps things up. Cya next time!

1st post! The journey begins!
Congratulations, congratulations, congratulations!!
Hiya everyone, well done for finding me and welcome to the start of my new blog, Cookie’s Chamber.
It is a fool’s story that has been opened on the foolish day of the year! So you cant forget what day it was made on. So now that I’ve started this collection of thoughts and events, it’s time to introduce myself.
I’m Matt Cook, and I’m a ceramicist-in-the-making. It can mean that literally spoken as well, since my current project is making “Death masks” of myself about my own insecurities. I’ll be graduating this June/July as well, so please support me!
My age can be a mystery, but it has been mistaken for many different and inaccurate years (and it’s always fun when people guess. :3 ) At the moment, I’m living in a small village called Freckleton with my dad and bro.
This blog has only one purpose: to add stuff onto it. So I’ll update it with whatever I need to make myself feel better. This includes-
Good days and bad days, events in my life, opinions, changes in life, weird ideas that pop out of my head, photos, links, vids… Okay, you get the idea.
For my next post, I will try to get a picture of myself in my happy-go-lucky form. (Then again, different software always have their glitches and issues…) I will also include my hobbies and a list of my likes/dislikes.
Cya next time!
